Stellar turn out at the Rainbow Club’s Malabar Magic Ocean Swim

It was a spectacular day that greeted the record 1900 strong swimmers at this year’s annual Rainbow Club Malabar Magic Ocean Swim on 21 February 2021. Whilst the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has restricted the activities and fundraising of many registered charities, it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of Malabar Magic competitors, with 900 more taking to the water than in the previous meet. To ensure social distancing, rolling starts of a few swimmers, seconds apart, formed part of a number of Covid-safety measures.

The Ottomin Foundation was again a proud Malabar Magic event sponsor. A total of twenty Ottomin Foundation Charity Committee members along with their family members and Ottomin Group counterparties competed in 2021.

The record numbers translated to fundraising of more than $250,000 meaning the Rainbow Club’s goal to open new clubs in locations from Newcastle to Lithgow and Five Dock to Lane Cove in Sydney was achieved. This means that at least 150 new families with a child with a disability will be learning to swim in 2021.
