Beach conservation success for Station Beach

Richard Kovacs, Chairman & CEO of the Ottomin Group, has become an advocate through his involvement in the Palm Beach Protection Group, which is a grassroots, community-based organisation, ensuring the conservation of pristine beaches and their surrounding environments within the Palm Beach area in Sydney.

The Palm Beach Protection Group has been involved in advocacy that questioned the Northern Beaches Council’s capacity to assess the environmental risks on Station Beach surrounding a proposed trial to allow off-leash dogs on the beach. Station Beach is home to the largest seagrass community in the Pittwater estuary, which includes the threatened Posidonia australis seagrass population that nurtures a diverse habitat of marine life, such as the threatened White’s seahorse.

The Palm Beach Protection Group was successful in a NSW Land and Environment Court ruling in November 2020, which quashed Northern Beaches Council resolutions to pursue on-leash and off-leash dog access to Station Beach.
